John Tyler Signed Letter Handwritten April 1, 1842

A two-page (front & back), handwritten letter signed “J. Tyler”, to an unnamed recipient, likely Secretary of the Treasury Walter Forward, in part: “…cause forthwith to be made out for me a statement of Gov. Doty’s accounts. Let me also be informed what was the amount deposited in the Treasury by Gov. Doty…have this done at once.” James Duane Doty was the Governor of the Territory of Wisconsin 1841-44, he was a man of great ability but he had many political enemies possibly leading to this inquiry by Tyler. There is a minor water stain to the lower left affecting a couple of words.
