Description

An official reprint of the Family Dog Doors Denver, Colorado New Year’s Eve 1967 Concert poster, signed by Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore.  Please note that the signature of Poster Artist Rick Griffin is printed into the poster (so it is NOT hand-signed by Griffin).

The poster is printed/screened on heavy paper stock and measures 27″ x 37.5″ (so with the white margin it is bigger than the original).

Number 89 from a numbered limited edition of 100 (#93/500).  Griffen produced 500 of these re-print posters but we are unclear as to how many of those were subsequently signed by the three members of the Doors — certainly only a small portion of them were signed.

This poster is a reprint of Griffin’s famous FD-D-18 The Doors “Pay Attention” Denver Concert Poster.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RICK GRIFFIN SIGNATURE ON THIS POSTER IS PRINTED INTO THE POSTER (SO NOT HAND-SIGNED).  THE SIGNATURES OF ALL THREE DOORS MEMBERS ARE LIVE ORIGINAL AUTOGRAPHS.

The poster has a couple of minor creases to the edges.  In terrific condition overall with vibrant colors.

This incredible concert  on New Years Eve of 1967 in Denver, Colorado featured Jim Morrison and the Doors along with Allman Joy (an early version of the Allman Brothers Band).  This poster has long been cherished by fans and collectors, and the image reused in subsequent books written about the late ’60s — due in no small part to a rather pointed drug reference (the large white tablet-shaped “pill” featuring the words “Pay Attention”).

Signed at official private autograph sessions.
Sold with Certificates of Authenticity from both The Autograph Source and independent third-party authenticator Beckett Authentication Services.

The Family Dog:

In 1966, a free-spirited rock promoter named Chet Helms teamed up with a bunch of hippies and started putting on some of the greatest rock events of all time. They called their commune/promotions company, The Family Dog.

The Family Dog’s weekly dance hall revues gave the local bands a forum to perform their groundbreaking music. It was here in places like the Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom where the philosophies and ideals of a counterculture revolution found their voice.

To spread the word about its live events, The Family Dog hand-picked a small army of graphic artists to design promotional posters and handbills. The most influential of the group became known as the “San Francisco Five.” This extremely creative crew was comprised of Rick Griffin, Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, Stanley Mouse and Wes Wilson. They would go on to produce some of the most iconic and memorable imagery in the history of rock and roll.

The art of The Family Dog captures the spirit of free expression. It reflects the bold experimental freedom of the era, and it serves as a guidepost for future generations who long for peace, love and understanding.

Signed by members of The Doors Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore in pencil. Hand numbered in pencil with an edition of only 500. Rick Griffin’s signature is printed on the poster in silver ink.

Size of the poster is 24.5 x 37.5 Inches with deckled edges.

This is a Lithograph Print on some of the best cotton rag paper that we have seen — very thick and very soft.

In 2008 Rhino Entertainment part of Warner Music, five of the renowned Family Dog artists, known as the San Francisco Five and Jack Gallery collaborated to print, publish and remaster these iconic posters in limited-edition signed and numbered fine art lithographs. These premiered at Jack Gallery (now gone) and was the first time that this collection of remastered Family Dog images was shown prior to their traveling to galleries worldwide. These large format remasters were authorized by all party’s involved.

Poster is stamped on the back with the date and verification. Using the same image for all the listings, may vary on actual print.

Take the pill pay attention and enter the doorway to space. These aliens are friendly and dig The Doors. This print was created for the last concert presented by Family Dog in Denver under Chet Helms.
